Intrinsyc Announces Availability of Soleus™ Support for Marvell PXA3xx Application Processor Platforms

OEMS can Reduce Time to Market With Intrinsyc's Soleus™ Consumer Handset Platform for Marvell's PXA3xx Application Processor Family

3GSM World Congress, Barcelona, Spain – February 12, 2007 – Intrinsyc Software International, Inc. (TSX: ICS), the developer of the Soleus™ development platform based on Microsoft® Windows® CE, today announced at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, its porting of its Windows CE based Soleus™ development platform to Marvell’s PXA3xx application processors, speeding development efforts by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Original Device Manufacturers (ODMs) and International Design Houses.

The optimization and integration of the Microsoft® Windows® CE based Soleus™ development platform with the Marvell ® PXA platforms will provide OEMs, ODMs and International Design Houses with a jump start solution that supports the Windows® CE operating system. Intrinsyc’s Soleus™ software development platform offers an excellent way to develop consumer handsets and converged devices by providing a turnkey development platform for consumer handsets powered by the Windows® CE operating system. It is available from Intrinsyc for leading hardware platforms, has the ability to provide most telephony essentials, and includes a suite of popular voice and data applications.

By optimizing and integrating, Intrinsyc has fine-tuned the performance of the Soleus™ development platform for Marvell application processor platforms. Marvell’s recently introduced PXA3xx, family of application processors deliver industry-leading power and performance and enable scalable low-power device designs. Marvell’s new PXA3xx generation of application processors are designed for consumer handsets, smartphones, GPS navigation systems, wireless handhelds and other consumer electronic devices.

Marvell’s PXA3xx application processors provide the headroom for advanced applications with intelligent power management allowing manufacturers to differentiate current and future offerings,” says Gary Forni, Director of Platform Enabling, Marvell’s Cellular and Handheld Business Group. “We’re excited that our partner, Intrinsyc, has its Soleus™ platform available as a market ready option for designers, ODMs and OEMs, who can now design around the Windows® CE OS. It will minimize the work required and time-to-market for new product development.”

The Intrinsyc Soleus™ product for Marvell PXA3xx Windows® CE based platforms offers three unique opportunities for global designers:

  • The Soleus™ platform provides a unique solution for Windows® CE handhelds that need connectivity/telephony, such as GPS and MDTV, providing the only complete Windows® CE handset platform with integrated telephony.
  • OEMs or ODMs that want to offer a consumer-branded handset can reuse their Windows® Mobile investments in applications and board support packages and leverage their expertise in Visual Studio® tools development to offer a converged consumer device.
  • For OEMs who want to deploy Windows® CE handsets and want full feature OS benefits, the Soleus™ platform is the optimal Windows® CE handset solution.

“Marvell’s PXA3xx application processors family delivers high performance and cost efficiency combined with extremely low power consumption,” says Mark Johnston, Intrinsyc’s vice president and general manager of worldwide sales and business development. “It dovetails perfectly with the Soleus™ platform, which offers a primary solution for operators and handset manufacturers looking to quickly develop and bring to market consumer handsets and converged devices with rich, differentiated user experiences, while reducing development time and cost.”

Johnston explains this optimization and integration allows designers a significant Windows® CE operating system alternative to consider. “We believe there is solid demand for this integrated platform, which will initially support 2.5G, with plans to support 3G in the future, and that our collaboration will bring significant benefit to both Marvell and Intrinsyc.”

Intrinsyc will demonstrate the platform at its booth at the 3GSM World Congress (Hall 2, booth # 2E17). This is the first platform on which Intrinsyc and Marvell have collaborated to demonstrate the solution, with additional platforms being planned.
