Intrinsyc Announces Multiple Hardware Platform Support for Soleus
Development of new Feature Phone reference designs to help speed time to market and reduce cost of building handsets.
3GSM World Congress, Barcelona, Spain – February 13, 2006 - Intrinsyc Software International, Inc. (TSX:ICS) an industry leader in providing winning mobility software and services, today announced the development and demonstration of various Soleus™-based feature phone reference designs and handsets at the Intrinsyc stand G16 in Hall 2, as well as at some of the associated silicon vendor stands at the 3GSM World Congress 2006.
Soleus, first demonstrated at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, February 2005, under the code name Polaris, is a turnkey development platform for feature phones that leverages the Microsoft® Windows™ CE operating system to create software that provides mobile phone manufacturers with more cost-effective and feature-laden handset design options. Soleus provides a broad range of telephony essentials, and also includes a suite of the most popular voice and data applications.
Soleus is a turnkey development platform for feature phones that leverages the Microsoft® Windows™ CE operating system and Visual Studio development environment to create software that provides mobile phone manufacturers with more cost-effective and feature-laden handset design options. At 3GSM today Intrinsyc is showcasing Soleus on four different silicon vendor reference designs and two different handsets, featuring leading mobile handset hardware architectures that include Texas Instrument's (NYSE:TXN) OMAP™ 730 and 850 chipsets, Freescale Semiconductor's (NYSE:FSL) i.MX31 chipset, Intel's (NasdaqNM:INTC) PXA270 chipset, and Agere Systems's (NYSE:AGR) Vision™ X115 chipset.
Intrinsyc is showing three simultaneous Soleus feature phone presentations at its stand using different combinations of these reference designs, and 3GSM delegates have the opportunity to interactively design feature phone user interfaces using the Soleus Designer software. Attendees will be able to choose the look and feel of their phone design, make specific application and feature set choices, quickly compile and download the software to a reference design and then place and receive calls whilst manipulating various forms of media on the devices.
"Intrinsyc is delighted with the support that Soleus has received from the leading silicon vendors in the mobile industry," said Derek Spratt, CEO, Intrinsyc. "By working with them through the last year to pre-integrate Soleus with their leading chipsets we are able to speed new feature phone handset designs to market. Almost all of the technology integration challenges traditionally faced by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original device manufacturers (ODMs) are eliminated by Intrinsyc's approach to delivering new hardware and software technologies to the mobile handset market."
"We intend to seek GSM and network certifications for a number of these feature phone reference designs in the coming months ahead, thereby further adding value to the handset manufacturers and accelerating their time to market further," adds Vince Schiralli, President & COO of Intrinsyc. "We are extremely pleased to showcase Soleus running on a few of our potential customer's handsets at 3GSM and look forward to bringing compelling new feature phones to market in the future."
